Thoughts Become Things

VisionBoard

“Thoughts become things.” That is what my friend, Carl, said to me today as I was explaining that I wanted to make myself a vision board. Recently, I have been all about this philosophy. You know that saying,  “You are what you eat”? I also believe you become what you think.

I was watching The Secret with my cousin, awhile back, and  someone in the documentary was explaining that our thoughts actually have frequencies. Our thoughts are tangible, how cool is that? And the law of attraction states “like attracts like.” So by that thinking, positive thoughts attract positive things. Conversely, negative thoughts attract negative things. This is not a new idea or ground-breaking notion, but it has stuck with me recently.

After the new year, I did a lot of self-evaluation, and in doing so, I decided to quit my job. And so I did. It wasn’t easy (I didn’t have another job lined up), but I knew it was the right thing to do. I was too busy, always stressed and was not feeling myself. Although I experienced a lot of success in what I was doing,  I realized I was heading down a career path that I had no interest in.  In order to change my life, I needed to make a (drastic) decision. And I have never been happier. Since quitting, I have had quality time to reevaluate what it is I really want. And after even a few days, I am already developing a clear direction. During all of this, a few of my friends and family recommended I put together a vision board. Since this cost almost nothing (just some poster paper and glue) I decided to do it. I am unemployed and on a tight budget  so I need to be creative when it comes to entertaining myself!

My vision board is hanging in a spot I see every day in my room. I know it will help motivate me to achieve my goals this year. I want to travel back to Europe, find a job that I am passionate about, pursue my hobbies of writing and learning to play an instrument, and continue meeting inspiring people.

Vision boards can take all different shapes and sizes. It can be a journal, your Pinterest account (my cousin did that), a poster board, or an entire wall. But I do believe that the energy we put out to the universe really does result in concrete and measurable results.
