Eva’s Lens: When in Rome…

…do as the Romans do.

I have not been to Rome but what I do know is you cannot truly experience a city without living the way the locals do. Eat falafel in Israel, lobster in Maine, pasta in Italy and deep dish pizza in Chicago. Drink local wine in Napa, sit at an outdoor cafe in Paris, and sip tea in London.

People’s travel preferences and styles can be different. You could be the type that wants every trip to be a relaxing vacation or the type who wants to see and do as much as you can. I am the latter. I like to listen to the sounds of the city; the accents, the birds chirping, the taxis screeching. I like to get the most out of my visit, so before exploring a new place I do some research to prep.

I’ve found that travel blogs and Instagram accounts are a good way to learn more about a city. You become educated about the touristy spots but also the local spots that aren’t so touristy. There is also a Facebook page called Travelettes, a group where female travelers ask advice and give recommendations for other female travelers all over the world. Lastly I encourage communicating with locals and asking for advice; whenever I do this I always get an authentic experience and am not disappointed.

Here are some delicious reminders to enjoy local cuisine and live in the moment while traveling.

Whether you plan to travel within the states or outside, my advice is to step outside your comfort zone and immerse yourself! Take it all in because before you know it, your trip will come to an end.
